This week's Value of the Week comes from the Empowered aspect of our RED Values.
Empowered - I persevere Perseverance is incredibly important in learning, especially when we are learning something new! Often it is easy to give up the moment something becomes hard or challenging, or if we feel that we don't have the skills or knowledge to be immediately successful. This value is reiterating the importance of persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success, as learning does not always result in instant gratification or success. You can support this by encouraging your child to keep on working through things, even when they are hard. Reminding them and talking about times when they or you have experienced something difficult that required perseverance is great modelling of this value - it might be when they learned to ride a bike, or learned to swing on a swing without being pushed by an adult, or even when you changed a job and had to learn how to do something new.

Today, in our Whole School Assembly, Rooms 16 and 18 shared a movie they had made showcasing our RED Values. We thought it was too good not to share!
Thank you for attending our Meet The Teachers evening yesterday. We hope you found the information in the presentations beneficial, and enjoyed visiting your child's classroom.
Below are copies of the Syndicate presentations. Our RED Values are really important to us here at Redwood School. We believe they include the qualities we want our students to have to be successful learners and citizens, now and in the future.
To make sure our students have a good understanding of our RED Values, we have instigated our Value of the Week. Each week classes will have a strong focus on one of our RED Value qualities, with teachers explaining and teaching what it means and talking to students about how it can be demonstrated. This week's Value of the Week is Engaged - I join in. At the beginning of a new school year this attitude is especially important as learning new routines, building relationships, and engaging in new learning opportunities rely on being an active participant. We want to encourage our students to give things a go and get involved. Some of our learners try to opt out of lessons if they think they won't be successful, or if they "don't want to." By focussing on this value we communicating that the best way to learn and grow is to get involved, join in and give things a go. This article about the importance of sleep and how it impacts learning was recently published in the Education Gazette. As we set up our classes for the beginning of the year we are talking to students about things that help them to be effective as learners; sleep is definitely one of those things.

This article was recently published in the Education Gazette, which is a publication distributed to every school and learning institution in the country. We will continue to be part of KETE this year, and hope that it will continue to grow in scope and impact on local ecosystems. |
