General Information
  • We do not expect parents to be teachers and instructors at home. This will only lead to tension and frustration at a time when we have enough of that already.
  • We appreciate that many parents will be working from home, and will be busy. There is no requirement for learners to log a certain number of hours of learning per day.
  • Your child may be unsettled by the events unfolding around them. If they are not in the right frame of mind to focus on school learning tasks that is ok. However, for some children focusing on learning tasks may help take their minds off things. You know your child best, so please use your discretion.
  • Some families have already indicated that they will be using this time to connect as a group rather than focusing on learning: watching movies together, playing board games, going on walks etc. This is a great time to do those things.
Structuring a day
  • This will very much depend on how you want to approach this time. For some households having a clear plan for the day, and a structure will support everyone. Others may choose to be less formal in their structure. If you choose to schedule your day we suggest the following:
    • Investigation / Project Based Learning Tasks / General Activities
      • These are the activities we encourage the most as they focus on our learning outcomes of creativity and curiosity. As much time as possible should be given to these
    • Literacy Tasks
      • 20 - 30 minutes personal reading (minimum)
      • 20 - 30 minutes on one of the Literacy tasks
    • Maths Tasks
      • 20 - 30 minutes
    • PE & Health
      • Try to do one of the activities each day as a minimum
Communication from your child's teacher
  • Teachers will stay in contact with your child and parents via email, Seesaw or one of the digital tools the class uses. This will be done regularly, but we are mindful  not to bombard you with emails and instructions.
  • Teachers will be checking their emails on a daily basis if you have questions or wish to share some work your child has created. We cannot guarantee immediate responses, as teachers will structure their days to suit the needs of their own households.
  • Teachers will not be providing specific individualised learning plans for your child. The tasks and activities for each syndicate have been done in collaboration with all the teachers for that team to ensure consistency.
  • Teachers are not in the position to be able to offer health care advice.
  • Any information relating to the school closure and any changes to the COVID-19 alert level will come directly from the school via email and Facebook
