Out of Zone Enrolment

Redwood School has a zone in place.

Students living in zone may enrol at Redwood School.

Students living out of the zone who wish to attend Redwood School must apply to enrol when there is a ballot.

We have places for 10 new out of zone students turning 5 years during Terms 3 and 4 of 2023.  Please have your application to the school office by
9 am on Monday 3rd April 2023.  Contact the office, office@redwood.school.nz if
you have any questions.

The enrolment scheme means that children from families who live inside the zone have the right to be enrolled at Redwood School. All other enrolments will be subject to enrolment scheme legislation. An enrolment scheme must establish the following order of priority for the selection of students who would live outside the Redwood School zone.
  • 1st Priority: Students accepted for enrolment in a special programme run by the school and approved by the Secretary of Education. We have no such programmes so this priority would not apply to Redwood School.
  • 2nd Priority: Brothers and sisters of current students.
  • 3rd Priority: Brothers and sisters of former students.
  • 4th Priority: Children of former students.
  • 5th Priority: Children of Board employees or children of Board members.
  • 6th Priority: All other students.
If there are more applicants in priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group must be made by ballot.

Applications for the second half of 2023 are welcome. These close 9am Monday 3rd April 2023.  A ballot (if required) will be held on Tuesday 4th April 2023.  This is for the second half of 2023 and is for students who are turning 5 between 30 June 2023 - 15 December 2023.
This is the SECOND enrolment period for 2023.
An enrolment form can be collected from the school office or downloaded (see above).  When returning the enrolment form please ensure all necessary paperwork is attached to the application.

Frequently asked questions:
My child turns 5 in 2023, we are in zone, do I complete an enrolment form?
It would help the school if you were to, as this allows us to work out how many out of zone places we have available.

I have a child at Redwood School, we live out of zone, my younger child turns 5 in 2023, do I have to complete an enrolment form for the ballot?
Yes

We are out of zone and my children are older than 5, can we enrol?
At present we only have space for new entrants.  Please contact the office if you wish to discuss likelihood of availability.

How do I find out what ‘the zone’ is?
The home zone is on the website or ask at the office.

If there is a ballot when will I know if we are ‘in’?
You will be notified within a week of the ballot.

If we are unsuccessful, is there a waiting list?
Yes, any children not selected are added to our waiting list and if space becomes available you will be informed.
